401: American Health Care System

My term paper in the American Health Care System class is titled "A Participative Mode: Pediatric Remote Care of Chronic Conditions".

Currently working in a pediatric setting, I am aware of the growing population of children with chronic conditions. I strongly believe that one of the best ways to improve the quality of care delivery in the United States is to give the patient/family knowledge and ability to participate in their care. I demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of developing a solution to one of today’s major healthcare concerns.

While completing this presentation and paper, I gained a deeper knowledge of healthcare relationships including hospital/physician, hospital/nurse and care team/patient and family. I looked at an improved state of care delivery and evaluated how to engage the patient, technology considerations and challenges to disease management.

I have also attached my Final exam questions and answers. Throughout the final, I reflect on:

5.      What does a better healthcare system for the U.S. look like?

Looking at number one and two, I reflect on the growing amount of non-clinical responsibilities we are requiring our clinical resources to take on. We have a need for nursing personnel and medical personnel in general, especially in underserved areas. The perspective of our clinical care teams within America is assessed and potential solutions discussed.

My position at Children's Medical Center is within the Ambulatory department. However, since I primarily work on the website, my expertise is technical. This course taught me fundamentals about healthcare within the United States. With fundamentals in Medicare, Medicaid, Joint Commission, the status of health care personnel and other basics, I am better able to apply technology tools to meet the business' needs. I have the opportunity to continue to grow in my knowledge about government regulations including how they impact our hospital day to day.
