This course covers the legal regulations within healthcare in the United States today. The course and my final paper reflect on the history and standards like Protected Health Information (PHI), HIPAA, Meaningful Use, Joint Commission and other legal regulation.

Legal, Ethical & Social Issues in Medical Informatics paper reflects on effective compliance programs, meeting the federal standards and understanding regulations in medical informatics. It dives into the description and evaluation of clinical guidelines for heart failure, screening of type 2 diabetes in adolescents, and “diagnosis and management of asthma” (AHRQ). It also covers the description and evaluation of performance measures for population health, patient experiences and clinical quality.

The attached presentation demonstrates a proposed response to a HIPAA situation at Riverside Hospital of Riverside, NJ. The CEO and CIO are having a discussion about the potential breaches, major breaches and our action plan. The presentation reflects my understanding and applied critical thinking of of PHI under HIPAA.
